Every Hindus in Bali commonly make Penjor Galungan on Galungan Day. Penjor Galungan plugged on Tuesday / Anggara Wara / Wuku. Dungulan which known as Penampahan Galungan Day, and it has a meaning upholding of dharma. Penjor set on Lebuh on the right side of house entrance. If house overlook to north side, Penjor plugged on the east side of house entrance.
Sanggah and arches end of Penjor facing the street. Penjor material is a piece of bamboo that curved edges, decorated with coconut / palm leaves which still young and other leaves (Plawa). The equipment of Penjor are Pala Bungkah (tubers like sweet potatoes), Pala Gantung (eg coconut, cucumber, banana, pineapple, etc.), Pala Wija (such as corn, rice, etc.), snacks, as well as Sanggah Ardha Candra complete with the offering. At the tip of Penjor, there is Penjor sampiyan suspended complete with porosan and flowers. Sanggah Penjor Galungan use Sanggah Ardha Candra that made of bamboo, with a basic rectangular shape and a semicircular arched roof that resembles a crescent shape.
The purposes of Penjor installation are as Swadharma of Hindus to create a sense of devotion and grateful presented to Ida Sang Hyang Widi Wasa. Penjor as well as a gratitude for prosperity bestowed upon Ida Sang Hyang Widi Wasa Sang. High-arched bamboo is a picture of the highest mountain as a sacred place. Ornament consisting of coconut, banana, sugarcane, rice, snacks and fabrics are the representatives of all plants and food and clothing items are endowed by Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa.
Penjor Galungan is Penjor which has religious nature, also has a specific function in religious ceremonies, and must be made complete with its equipment.
In terms of form, Penjor is a symbol of Earth with all the results, which gives life and safety. Earth or land described as two dragons which are Naga Basuki and Ananta Bhoga. In addition, Penjor also a symbol of the mountain that provides safety and welfare. Decorations are an assorted leaves, such as pine needles, buggy, nail, fern, etc. For fruits are using rice, corn, coconut, cassava, banana chunk including nutmeg, mace, and it equipped with snacks, sugar cane and money.
Therefore, make a Penjor in order to the implementation of ceremony needs some certain conditionsand based on literature of Religion so that it’s not only impressed as a decoration. Penjor elements are indeed sacred symbols, as the foundation of the Vedic teachings, so that it reflects the values of religious ethics. The elements of Penjor symbols are as follows:
A. White cloth that contained in Penjor as a symbol of Hyang Iswara’s strength.
B. Bamboo as a symbol and strength of Hyang Brahma.
C. Coconut as a strength symbol of Hyang Rudra.
D. Janur as a strength symbol of Hyang Mahadeva.
E. Foliage (PLAWA) as a strength symbol of Hyang Sangkara.
F. Pala Bungkah, Nutmeg as a strength symbol of Hyang Vishnu.
G. Sugar cane as a strength symbol of Hyang Sambu.
H. Sanggah Ardha Candra as the strength symbol of Hyang Shiva.
